Morning Fitness

We like to get our brains working in the morning by starting with some exercise. We warm up by jogging at different speeds and doing high knees, up and downs and sumo squat. Then we play some cooperative games to work on communication and teamwork as well as fitness. We have been practicing our tagging skills and played team tic tac toe. It gets us warmed up and ready to begin our day.

STEM task – The Arctic Seed

We had to create our own seed dispersal adaption for a tree in the Arctic. When we were making the seed dispersal it was so fun because we had to draw a diagram of the seed pod. Then we had to make it and try testing it out to see if it worked or not. Then we had to write a whole paragraph telling the adaptations of it. I liked building it because I could visually see it working and testing it out because that would let me improve on it and make it work.

We had to create our own seed dispersal adaptations for a tree in the Arctic. I liked mine because it was kind of hard to make but it was fun to make it also. When we had to describe it to Mr James, it was fun because I had a lot of adaptations on it and it was good. My first adaptation was that it had a protection around it that protected it from the cold. My second adaptation, the tree is not very big, it will drop from the tree and because there is a lot of wind, the wind will get under the wings and make it fly. My last adaptation is that when it lands it has skis on the bottom, so it goes even further. My last one is that when it stays too long in the water, and snow and everything goes on it, underneath it there is a piece of wood and with too much water it will break and disperse the seeds.

Quick Write and Writing Goals

The reason I like daily write is because I enjoy how you can choose to write about a picture and it’s amazing how many different stories you can come up with using just one picture. What I also like is that no one else would EVER have the same story as you. What I think could be added is at the end of every quick write, you choose someone to tell there story. I also like how there is a time limit, so it’s challenging you and you’re not taking all day to make a story. What makes it even more challenging for you is that you don’t just write but you also complete task that you’re not the best at. You get goals that you are supposed to do to improve your writing skills. That is why i like daily write

These past month we have been doing quick write. In quick write, we have 8 minutes to complete two goals, then we have two minutes to edit. We have pencils on our wall to show how many goals we have completed. The longer the pencil the more goals you have completed. You have to hit your goal ten times to pass the level. My pencil is the longest. I enjoy this activity because we need to think quick about what to write.

Journals – Living in the Frozen World

This trimester we have been learning about the frozen world.

So first we had to draft a diary, and pretend to be either an Inuit or a Nenet. After that we got feedback from friends using the tag method. When we fixed the things that were recommend we typed it up on a goo.gl site. And now all that is left is to print it out. I really enjoyed how the feedback I got made a lot of sense, and how we got to hear other people’s diaries maybe to inspire us.

Word Study

In word study we get word sorts that relate to what we need to learn about spelling and how words work. We first sort our words to a given rule and write down the rule. We then copy our sort, write sentences with our words and draw pictures of our words. We then get to choose activities to do with our words. These include alphabetical order, string spelling, snap and clap, type it up and cut and glue.

Tagging our Work

After editing out diary entries we read them to each other. Then we wrote some feedback. What do you like about it? Ask a question. Give a suggestion. With that feedback we added their suggestions to our writing then after that we typed it up to publish. I enjoyed it because my diary was a little bit boring and my partner gave me some good ideas to make it better. I liked reading someone else’s diary entry to get some ideas to make mine better too.
